Seafarers Recruitment

Offshore Vessel Jobs

The offshore sector includes drilling units, FPSOs (floating production, storage and offloading units), construction and diving support vessels, cable and pipe layers and wind farm vessels. Most of these keep position with a dynamic positioning (DP) system and work on rotations rather than long contracts.

Work on board

  • DP watchkeeping: bridge officers operate the DP system during close-proximity work
  • Work alongside client and project personnel under the operator’s safety system
  • Rotations such as 4 weeks on and 4 weeks off are common, set by each employer
  • Mobile offshore drilling units follow the IMO MODU Code

Certificates and training

  • Normal certificates of competency for each rank (STCW Chapters II and III)
  • DP operator certificate under an industry scheme such as the Nautical Institute DP certification (induction course, sea time, simulator course, then the DPO certificate); this is an industry certificate, not an STCW one
  • Offshore safety and helicopter training such as OPITO BOSIET with HUET, when crew transfer by helicopter

What to put in your CV

Vessel type (drilling unit, FPSO, construction, DP vessel), DP class (DP2, DP3), your DP certificate and DP hours, and offshore safety certificates with expiry dates.
