Seafarers Recruitment
LNG and LPG Carrier Jobs
Gas carriers carry liquefied gases: LNG (liquefied natural gas, carried at about minus 162 °C) and LPG (propane and butane, carried pressurised, semi-refrigerated or fully refrigerated). Gas carriers are built and operated under the IGC Code. LNG carriers usually use part of the cargo as fuel, with steam turbine, dual-fuel diesel-electric or two-stroke gas engines.
Work on board
- Cargo handling with cargo compressors, heaters, reliquefaction plants and custody transfer measurement
- Cargo containment systems: membrane tanks, Moss spheres or independent tanks
- Engineers work with dual-fuel engines, gas supply systems and, on older LNG ships, steam plants
- Gas carrier experience is required by most employers for senior officers
Certificates and training
- Basic training for liquefied gas tanker cargo operations (STCW Reg. V/1-2): officers and ratings with cargo duties
- Advanced training for liquefied gas tanker cargo operations (STCW Reg. V/1-2): master, chief officer, chief engineer, second engineer and any person with immediate responsibility for cargo operations
- Normal certificates of competency for each rank; ETOs with high-voltage training
