Seafarers Recruitment

Tug and Offshore Supply Vessel Jobs

Tugs assist ships in port, tow barges and floating structures, and on the open sea carry out ocean towage. Offshore supply vessels support oil, gas and wind farm sites: platform supply vessels (PSV) carry deck cargo, fuel, water and drilling fluids, and anchor handling tug supply vessels (AHTS) move rigs and handle anchors.

Work on board

  • Small crews where everyone does several jobs: deck officers also handle mooring and cargo, engineers cover all machinery
  • Towing and anchor handling with winches, towing pins and shark jaws; heavy deck work for ABs and bosuns
  • PSVs and many AHTS use dynamic positioning (DP) alongside installations
  • Rotations or contracts depending on the employer and region

Certificates and training

  • Certificates for the size of the vessel: many tugs are under 500 GT, where STCW Reg. II/3 applies to masters and watchkeeping officers, and engines of 750 to 3,000 kW use STCW Reg. III/3
  • DP operator certificate (industry scheme such as the Nautical Institute) for officers on DP vessels
  • Anchor handling and towing experience, which employers ask for in the CV
  • Basic Training (STCW Reg. VI/1) for all crew

What to put in your CV

Vessel type (harbour tug, ocean tug, AHTS, PSV), bollard pull, winch type, DP class if any, and the kind of towing or anchor handling work you did.
