Seafarers Recruitment

Yacht Crew Jobs

Yachts used commercially (for charter) and large private yachts carry professional crews: captain, officers, deckhands, engineers, chef and interior crew (stewards and stewardesses). Many large yachts are registered under Red Ensign flags and follow codes such as the UK MCA Large Yacht Code or the Red Ensign Group Yacht Code.

Work on board

  • Deck crew: tender driving, water sports, washing down, varnish and paint work, mooring
  • Engineers: generators, propulsion, hydraulics, air conditioning and water makers
  • Interior: guest service, housekeeping and laundry; the chef runs the galley
  • Work patterns can be permanent with leave, or rotation on larger yachts

Certificates and training

  • Basic Training (STCW Reg. VI/1) for all crew, plus a seafarer medical certificate (for Red Ensign yachts the UK ENG1 or an accepted equivalent)
  • Officers: yacht certificates of competency issued by the flag, for example the UK MCA Officer of the Watch (Yachts) and Master (Yachts) certificates, which are STCW certificates limited to yachts
  • Engineers: yacht engineer certificates (for example MCA Y4 to Y1) or merchant certificates (STCW Chapter III)
  • Proficiency in designated security duties (STCW Reg. VI/6) for crew with security tasks
